Writing Tips for Busy Pet Pros

Running a pet business is time-consuming. Blogging for your business often gets put on the back burner while you focus on your pets and their pet parents. But blogging doesn’t have to be super time-consuming. There are simple ways to grow your blog while staying focused on your clients’ daily needs.

Tip 1: Keep Your Blog Posts Short

Your blog posts don’t need to be long. A simple but important tip, and answer to a common question, a quick story that will resonate with your readers is all you need. What matters is that your post speaks to the needs of your clients and prospects in simple ways that resonate. A few paragraphs on an important topic will go a long way toward building trust.

Tip 2: Use Simple Structures

Instead of worrying what to write, how to start, and where to focus next, choose a simple structure:

  • Write a quick tip, followed by a simple explanation.
  • Write a Q&A post, where you start with a common client question, and then write your answer, just as you would say it to a client in person.
  • Write a list post of 5 items you want to share with your clients. Your list post can focus on seasonal pet care or cover a specific area of concern for pet parents.

By keeping your structure simple, you will be able to quickly share valuable information and build trust with your clients and prospects.

Tip 3: Write the Way You Talk

How many things do you explain to your clients or prospects in a day. A lot, right? Your blog post can easily reflect those kinds of conversations. Just write the way you talk. Don’t overcomplicate it. Choose your topic and just say what you would tell a client standing in front of you. Not only is conversational writing easier to write, but it’s also easier for your readers to understand.

Tip 4: Done Beats Perfection Every Time

Consistency matters more than perfection in blogging. Keep showing up and writing what pet parents need to know. Don’t worry about making everything perfect. Perfection can lead to delays and obstacles. Give yourself permission to keep it simple. Just say what you want your readers to know and hit the Publish button.

This week, set a timer for 15 minutes, choose a structure from Tip 2 above, and write what you would say to a client if they were in your office. Keep it simple and hit Publish. Know that what you share with your readers is valuable because you have the answers they need.

I love writing blog articles. Why? Because I also love reading blogs. I enjoy the experience. As a writer and business owner, I want to create that experience for others. Your business blog will also create an amazing experience for your prospective clients.

That’s exactly what people want to find in your blog: an amazing experience. They want to come to your website, read your blog, and feel like they have already tried out your products or services through the stories you share. They want to have that experience before they sign up or purchase something. If you create this atmosphere for them, your product or service will fit in easily. The experience comes first.

Creating a People-Focused Blog for Your Pet-Focused Business

I love blogging. Writing blog articles is one of my favorite activities.

Today, I’m working on a series of articles for a client. As I write, I remember why I like blogging so much. It’s because blogging is about people.

When I write a blog article, I think about the people who have searched for that article because they are looking for helpful information.

Who are those people? What is going on in their life that has led them to search for this article? How can I help them with my words?
