No Time to Write? How about Five Minutes?

It’s a busy time of year taking care of pets. Holiday prep, seasonal changes, lots of client questions. You have answers, reminders, tips to share on your blog. But no time to write.

In busy seasons, it’s hard to set aside an hour to craft a blog post. But maybe you can find five minutes here and there to work on it. By being intentional in five-minute increments, you can keep your blog going at the busiest times of the year.

Most of us can find five minutes: waiting in line somewhere, taking a coffee break, opening or closing up shop for the day. We can use those five minutes to build a blog post one section at a time.

Start with an idea: spend five minutes brainstorming what you want to write about. Maybe it’s a list of holiday reminders or seasonal tips. Maybe an answer to a question clients ask you at this time of year. Make a list of possible topics and then choose one.

The next time you can find five minutes, make a bullet point list of things you want to say about that topic. Starting with a list is often the easiest way to build a blog post when you’re crunched for time. You can do this on a phone notes app or blog app so it’s handy whenever you have five minutes.

Don’t worry about putting the list in a particular order. Just get your ideas written down. It may take more than five minutes to come up with your list. That’s okay. Do what you can in that first five minutes. Then continue the next time you have five minutes.

After you have your list, put each item in an order that makes sense for your readers. Then choose one item on your list to start with. Add a little content to expand on it. Share your wisdom, thoughts, tips, suggestions.

You don’t have to write each item in sequence. Jump around based on your inspiration. Build out one item at a time. Maybe you have a few thoughts about different items but not full descriptions yet. That’s okay. Write what comes to you. Build it out as you go along.

By adding one piece at a time, you can make the most of those five-minute increments. You aren’t starting from scratch or trying to figure out what comes next. You’re just adding to your framework one piece at a time.

Before long, your content will be written. In the midst of your busy schedule. Without carving out large chunks of time.

When you’re ready, add an intro and a wrap-up paragraph. A few transitions between sections if needed. Pair your blog post with a photo. And hit publish.

Try it out with your next post. Brainstorm your topic, make an outline, build out each item, add your intro/wrap-up, and you’ve got a blog post! Five minutes at a time.
